One of the best pieces of advice I ever received was:
“If it isn’t working, change what you’re doing.”
I have always prided myself on being an organized person. I loved to sort and organize toys and stickers and stationery as a child. As a teen it was scrapbook supplies and later as a teacher, school supplies and books. But when I became a blogger and entered the world of online entrepreneurship, somehow the organization of all of my records didn’t come so easy. I had to change the hastily written sticky notes and piles of paper approach, because it wasn’t working.
I tried planner after planner after planner, looking for the ONE that would help me keep it all together and up to date. One planner had one kind of form that I liked, while another planner had a posting record I liked, and the other one was pretty, but included a lot of stuff I didn’t use.
I never could find a form to track affiliate income the way I wanted to. And then I started traveling and speaking and often couldn’t remember what notebook I’d jotted the details of a certain event in, forcing me to spend more time searching through emails and notebooks.
I knew I needed to do something different, because this clearly wasn’t working.
After several months of chaos, I finally started creating my own forms, and one day realized that when I used the forms, life didn’t seem so chaotic any more.
I put all the forms and records into one notebook and made sections for goals, new product ideas, my various calendars, to-do lists, website maintenance stuff, monthly stats, financial records, writing notes, speaking/traveling notes, networking information, etc. Having the forms I needed, and keeping them all in one place was working! I finally felt like I was in control of the records instead of them controlling me!
My 1.5 inch thick life/blog planner with all of my sections tabbed. It goes everywhere with me!
Little did I know that this was the birth of something that would help many other bloggers and online business people bring order to their chaos too!
